This 35mm full-frame image sensor collects light with record efficiency to achieve high sensitivity, a wide dynamic range, and a new level of realism while significantly reducing noise. By compressing circuitry height dramatically it increases the amount of light collected by each pixel, while photodiode expansion technology increases the size of the photodiode in every pixel to improve the sensor’s dynamic range.
Area-specific noise reduction is now more powerful than ever. It selectively divides the image into areas based on patterns (such as edges, textures, and evenly colored areas like blue skies), and then applies the most appropriate noise reduction for each area to improve image quality, especially at high-sensitivity settings. Working together with Sony’s detail reproduction, it gives supremely clear, detailed images.
